GIRST 2025 Successfully Concludes in Rome
The 4th International Conference on Geographic Information and Remote Sensing Technology (GIRST 2025) was held with great success from November 26 to 28, 2025, in the historic city of Rome, Italy.

Organized by the University of Roma Tre, GIRST 2025 benefited from an exceptional academic environment that fostered meaningful intellectual exchange. The conference was co-chaired by three distinguished academics: Professor Francesco Benedetto (University of Roma Tre and Chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Italian Chapter), Professor Fabio Tosti (University of West London), and Professor Xiangjie Kong (Zhejiang University of Technology). The event also received valuable technical co-sponsorship from the University of West London, the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Italy Chapter, the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society, and Zhejiang University of Technology, ensuring a high standard of quality and success.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Francesco Benedetto outlined the objectives of GIRST 2025, emphasizing its mission to unite researchers and industry professionals in the fields of geographic information and remote sensing.
The conference featured keynote presentations from leading voices in the field.
Professor Fabio Tosti shared insights on“Emerging Technologies for the Future of the Natural, Built, and Heritage Environment.”
Professor Francesco Benedettodiscussed“Responsible AI for Remote Sensing: Opportunities and Challenges.”
Additionally, Simonetta Alessandro (University of Tor Vergata) and Maria Cristina Paoletti (National Institute of Industrial Accident Insurance) offered expert perspectives on regulatory compliance through international standards in the era of artificial intelligence.
Throughout the conference, attendees engaged in a broad spectrum of oral presentations from researchers representing thirteen countries and regions, including China, India, Algeria, Turkey, Finland, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Kuwait, Pakistan, Greece, and Estonia. Topics covered cutting-edge developments such as remote sensing image change detection, glacier extraction leveraging cloud computing, feature extraction via generative adversarial networks (GANs), multi-dimensional road crack analysis, flood simulation for resilience assessment, and more.
GIRST 2025 served as an outstanding platform for fostering collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of ideas among international experts, academic institutions, and industry leaders. The knowledge shared at the conference is anticipated to accelerate advancements in intelligent geographic information systems and cutting-edge remote sensing technologies. The organizing committee extends sincere thanks to all participants, speakers, sponsors, and partners for their enthusiastic support and invaluable contributions. With strong momentum, the community looks forward to future GIRST conferences as they continue to advance scientific discovery and technological innovation.
